The first day of school is tomorrow! Before students return to campus for the 2026–2027 school year, Superintendent Dr. Vanessa Buitrago — Dr. B — has a special welcome-back message for all MCS students.

We’re excited to welcome students back to school Tuesday, August 11! As Dr. B shares in her message, there are a few important changes students should know about as we begin the new year.
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
Beginning this school year, students will be expected to keep cell phones and other electronic signaling or communication devices turned off and put away during the school day.
The goal is to help students stay focused on learning, engage with their teachers and classmates, and have more opportunities to connect with the people and experiences around them.
Grading Changes for Junior High and High School Students
Junior high and high school students may also notice changes to grading this year.
The District is making adjustments designed to ensure grades more accurately reflect what students know, have learned, and are able to do as they prepare for college, career, and life after graduation.
Students are encouraged to listen closely as their teachers explain grading expectations and to ask questions early if they need clarification.
You Can Be Successful
Dr. B also wants every MCS student to begin the year knowing there are people throughout our schools who believe in them and are invested in their success.
